MEPs Question Commission On Violated Rights of Bulgarian Immigrants

Bulgarian MEP Ilhan Kyuchyuk, and fellow members from his parliamentary group ALDE, posed an enquiry to the European Commission on the effective application of the principle of free access to the labour market in the EU.

The Members of European Parliament have been informed of cases in which Bulgarian citizens were prevented from opening of bank accounts in Germany and the Netherlands.

Such refusal makes the signing of employment contracts by Bulgarian immigrants almost impossible.

The MEPs inquired whether the Commission has been informed of the cases and what measures it intends on taking in order to guarantee that the principle of of free movement is applied effectively to all citizens of the EU.

The MEPs urged for removing the unjustified borders restricting access to the labour market in the EU.

In his enquiry, Kyuchyuk reminded that the transitional provisions on the free movement of workers from Bulgaria and Romania have expired on 1 January 2014, lifting all restrictions on their access to the labour market in the EU.
