Gasic: Serbia is committed to peaceful policy

MOSCOW - As the OSCE chair, Serbia is investing maximum efforts to realise a peaceful process in Ukraine and put a lasting stop to conflicts as to reach a long-term stable and sustainable solution, Serbian Defence Minister Bratislav Gasic stated.

Consistent implementation of internationally accepted obligations and measures for strengthening trust and constructive dialogue has no alternative for us and represents the only way to ensure national, regional and global security and stability, Gasic stated in an interview for the Russian Serbian-language portal Sputnik.

He underscored that this is the reason why Serbia especially appreciates the stands of countries that have not recognised the so-called independence of Kosovo (unilaterally declared by ethnic Albanians in the southern Serbian province).

We expect that a solution to all controversial issues would be found in keeping with the Military-technical agreement and the UN Security Council Resolution 1244, whereby we will not recognise the unilaterally declared independence of Kosovo, nor will we do that by accepting the factual state in the field, Gasic said.

The defence minister noted that Serbia supports the fight against terrorism and is ready to provide assistance to this end within its capacities.
