1,000 tons of hazardous waste to be disposed by end of year

BELGRADE - Over 1,000 tons of hazardous waste will be disposed in Serbia by the end of the year, Head of Waste Management Department in the Ministry of Agriculture and Environmental Protection Radmila Serovic announced on Tuesday.

The realisation of the three projects will dispose of hazardous waste from the Prva Iskra factory in Baric, ECO-Gas MGS in Sabac and ten more locations, Serovic said and noted that the Ministry's budget envisages RSD 230 million for the purpose.

She noted that Prva Iskra plant in Baric holds around 600 million tons of hazardous waste, ECO-Gas MGS in Sabac has around 90 tons of waste and the remaining ten locations contain around 500 tons of hazardous waste.

Serovic noted that the waste would be reallocated and treated in the adequate manner in Serbian plants, and n case this is not possible, the waste would be disposed abroad.

She recalled that there is several thousand tons of hazardous, old waste in the territory of entire Serbia.
