Vucic: Only one country - Croatia - opposed opening of Chapter 26

BELGRADE - Only one country - Croatia - opposed the opening of Chapter 26 in Serbia's EU accession talks, Serbian PM Aleksandar Vucic told a press conference Tuesday evening after his country opened two new chapters in the talks.

Vucic, who returned from Brussels Monday evening after no agreement had been reached on opening Chapter 26, thanked Slovakia for pushing for opening three chapters, as well as the US.

US Vice President Joe Biden spoke with Croatian officials by phone in the afternoon, noting the need to open the chapter, Vucic said.

Vucic said one of the reasons he had left Brussels and missed the intergovernmental conference was that he had not been given a single reason as to why Croatia was unwilling to allow the opening of the chapter.
