Juncker: European Parliament is "totally ridiculous"

EU Commission President Jean-Claude Juncker on Tuesday quarreled with European Parliament President Antonio Tajani to "call the legislature totally ridiculous."

Juncker first thanked "the few dozens of the 700-plus legislators" for showing up and then "insisted that 'parliament is not serious' for failing to show up in large numbers for the keynote debate of the day," AP reported.

Tajani then wanted Jucker to show "a more respectful attitude," and added:

"The Commission does not control the parliament. It is the parliament that should be controlling the Commission."

"There are only a few members in the parliament to control the Commission. You are ridiculous," Juncker replied.

"The exchange" was "even more amazing" since both Juncker and Tajani belong to the same EPP Christian Democratic group, AP observed in its report.
