Dubai – Foreign Minister Anže Logar is visiting the United Arab Emirates (UAE), Qatar and Saudi Arabia this week on a tour aimed at enhancing bilateral ties and creating potential for economic cooperation in particular. He will also visit the Expo 2020 show in Dubai.

Starting his tour today, the minister will address exhibitors and business officials at the Slovenian Expo pavilion and take part in an informal meeting with Slovenian business officials.

Later on Tuesday, Logar is scheduled to meet his UAE counterpart, Sheikh Abdullah bin Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan, and Anwar Mohammed Gargash, foreign policy advisor to UAE president.

He will visit Doha on Wednesday for talks with Qatari Foreign Minister and Deputy Prime Minister Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman Al-Thani, who was in Slovenia in November last year for his first official visit.

At the time the ministers expressed interest in boosting bilateral cooperation and trade, noting potential in logistics, energy, tourism and information and communication technology.

On Thursday, the last day of his tour, Logar will stop in Riyadh for meetings with his Saudi counterpart, Prince Faisal bin Farhan Al Saud, and Minister of Commerce Majid bin Abdullah Al Qasabi. The Foreign Ministry says the talks will focus on cooperation in business, new technologies, artificial intelligence and the environment.

Some of the key topics of the tour, according to the ministry, will be regional cooperation and cooperation with the EU. Slovenia would also like to strengthen ties with the Gulf countries in areas such as the combat against climate change, diversification of economy, sustainable development, the combat against terrorism, and regional stability.

In his meetings Logar will also present Slovenia’s bid to serve as a non-permanent member of the UN Security Council in 2024 and 2025.
