Russian soldiers crossed border "by mistake"

MOSCOW -- Russian soldiers captured in Ukraine crossed the border by mistake, said a source in the Russian Ministry of Defense, Reuters and RIA Novosti are reporting.

"The soldiers were on patrol in a part of the Russian-Ukrainian border, crossing it by accident in an unmarked area and if we understood well, they offered no resistance to the Ukrainian army when they were captured," the source said, according to Reuters.

Kiev said earlier it had captured ten Russian soldiers 50 kilometers south-east of Donetsk.

The Ukrainian Security Service today released a video showing the captured Russian soldiers to substantiate its allegations and those of western countries that Russia was participating in the Ukrainian conflict on the side of pro-Russian forces fighting against the Ukrainian army in eastern Ukraine, the agency added.

Ukrainian and Russian presidents Petro Poroshenko and Vladimir Putin are scheduled to meet on Tuesday in Minsk.

Russia denies that its military is helping the activists in eastern Ukraine.

Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov dismissed on Monday reports about a Russian attack on the Ukrainian territory, claiming this was disinformation disseminated by the Kiev authorities.
