Special unit member killed in barracks accident

BELGRADE -- A member of the special military police unit Kobre ("Cobras") has died at the military clinic VMA after he was shot "during a routine weapons check."

The Ministry of Defense also announced on Tuesday that the victims was Milan Dosković, a 33-year-old who joined the military in 2001.

Dosković was shot by a colleague, identified as N.I., at the unit's barracks in Belgrade on Monday afternoon. The ministry said N.I.'s pistol fired accidentally during a weapons check.

Army chief Ljubisa Dikovic has formed a commission to investigate the accident.

The Interior Ministry investigated the scene in the presence of members of the military police, it was also said.

Dikovic and Defense Minister Bratislav Gasic have offered their condolences to the family of Milan Doskovic, the statement said.
