Reconstruction of Corridor 10 railway section

BELGRADE -- The reconstruction and modernization works on a railway section of Corridor 10 funded by a Russian loan was launched on Monday.

Serbian Minister of Transport and Infrastructure Zorana Mihajlovic announced the start of works.

The leg between Sopot Kosmajski and Kovacevac is the third in Serbia on which Russian company RZD International has launched works, and the deadline for the completion of this 18.5 kilometer-long section is August 18, Tanjug said.

Mihajlovic underlined that the realization of the Russian loan-supported projects is now much faster.

The minister said that the government's goal is to increase the number of domestic companies partaking in the projects, adding that Energoprojekt is a subcontractor on the Sopot Kosmajski-Kovacevac rail line.

Russian Ambassador to Serbia Aleksandr Chepurin said that the agreements on modernization of Serbian rail lines supported by a Russian loan of USD 800 million are now being fulfilled even before deadlines.

The agreement between Serbian Railways and RZD International envisages the reconstruction of three northern sections of Corridor 10 totaling 65.8 kilometers.
