Croatia: Controversial plaque moved from near Jasenovac

A controversial memorial plaque that was placed last year near the site of the former death camp Jasenovac in Croatia has been moved to another location.

Beta is reporting on Thursday, citing Croatia's Index website, saying that the plaque is dedicated to several member of the former HOS (Croatian Defense Forces) who died in the 1990s, and that it contains the Ustasha salute, "Za dom spremni" ("For home ready").

Jasenovac was a WW2-era death camp, a place of mass murder of Serbs, Jews, and Roma. The controversial salute was used by their killers - members of the Ustasha regime of the Nazi-allied Independent State of Croatia (NDH).

According to Index, police were present as the plaque was being removed, along with two members of the association that installed it there, who "protested."
