Bulgaria's Pironkova Starts China Open with Victory

Bulgaria's tennis player Tsvetana Pironkova started her participation in the China Open tennis tournament with a victory.

She beat the American Nicole Gibbs by 4:6, 6:2, 7:5, and qualified for the next round. There the Bulgarian tennis player will face Croatian Ajla Tomljanović.

Serbia ease past Cameroon for third World Championship win

TRIESTE - The Serbian women's volleyball team beat Cameroon 3-0 (25-17, 25-13, 26-24) in their World Championship Pool B, Round 3 match in Trieste, Italy on Thursday.

Coach Zoran Terzic's team scored their third consecutive victory after beating Turkey (3-0) and Bulgaria (3-2).

There will be no fixtures on Friday, and Serbia will next face Canada on Saturday.

Bulgaria Wins 16 Medals at 2014 Special Olympics European Summer Games

Bulgarian athletes have won 16 medals at the 2014 Special Olympics European Summer Games in Antwerp.

The competitions took place on September 9-21 and brought together over 2000 athletes with intellectual disabilities from 58 countries, 1000 coaches, more than 4000 volunteers and over 300 officials, thousands of families, friends and journalists from all over the world.

Bulgarians Win 12 Medals at World Arm Wrestling Championship in Vilnius

Bulgaria has won 4 gold, 5 silver and 3 bronze medals in the first two days of the 36th World Arm Wrestling Championship.

The arm wrestling championship takes place in Vilnius, Lithuania, on 17-20 September, according to reports of the BGNES news agency.

Sofia Fails to Become Host City for Euro 2020 Matches

Bulgaria will not host any matches of the UEFA Euro 2020 Championship, according to an announcement of UEFA.

UEFA announced the 13 venues that would host matches for the championship after a meeting of its executive committee in Geneva on Friday.

Sofia was one of the 19 candidates to host matches of Euro 2020 but it failed to make it among the 13 winners.

Ludogorets Loses 1-2 to Liverpool in Champions League Clash

Liverpool kicked off their return to UEFA Champions League after beating Bulgaria's Ludogorets 2-1 on Tuesday night.

It was far from plain sailing for the hosts at Anfield, as the Bulgarian champions proved worthy opponents in their first ever Champions League appearance.

Bulgaria was defeated 3:0 by Finland as the team played its last match at the FIVB Volleyball Men's World Championships Poland 2014.

Sunday's loss was the sixth in a row for the Bulgarians, who only managed to beat Mexico, China and Egypt during the world tournament.

A draft line-up of the new European Commission, obtained by Reuters, shows that Bulgaria's Kristalina Georgieva would most likely be taxation and anti-fraud commissioner. 

The final line-up of Jean-Claude Juncker's 28-strong team is expected to be announced on Wednesday at noon, so the draft is subject to change.

Bulgaria Defeats Azerbaijan 2:1 in UEFA Euro Qualifier

Bulgaria defeated Azerbaijan 2:1 in a 2016 UEFA Euro League Group H match in Baku on Tuesday.

The visitors opened the score 14 minutes into the match when Ilijan Micanski found the corner from inside the box.

The hosts drew level in the 53rd minute when Dimitrij Nazarov surprised the Bulgarian goalkeeper Vladislav Stoyanov, smashing the ball home from around 30 metres.

Serbian teams win three prizes at Microsoft competition

BELGRADE - Serbian teams have won three prizes at the international Bubble Cup, one of Serbia's most prestigious competitions for IT experts.

This year's final, held on September 5-7, featured 24 teams - 10 from Serbia and the rest from Poland, Bulgaria, Lithuania, Great Britain and Croatia.

Bulgaria lost to Russia in a match of the FIVB Volleyball Men's World Championship 2014 in Poland.

The team however qualifies for the next stage, ranking third in Pool C with 5 points.

Other teams in the group are Canada, Mexico, China and Egypt.

Sunday's match ended 2:3 (25:20, 25:23, 20:25, 23:25, 11:15), with Bulgaria winning the first two games.

Bulgaria's Men's volleyball team beat Egypt 3:2 in a match of the FIVB Volleyball Men's World Championship 2014 held in Poland. 

By winning the game with 25:22, 26:24, 23:25, 20:25, 15:11, the Bulgarian team gains two points and keeps its second position in the preliminary group. 

Bulgaria's Men's Volleyball Team Beats China

Bulgaria's men's volleyball team defeated China 3:0 in their third match of the FIVB Volleyball Men's World Championship 2014 held in Poland.

The match played in Gdansk was won by 25:23, 25:23, 25:19, leaving behind the memory of the blow they received from Canada at their last match (2:3).

Bulgaria is facing the Egyptian team on Sunday at 14:00 EEST.
