Javelin thrower Tatjana Jelaca wins European silver

ZURICH - Serbian javelin thrower Tatjana Jelaca, who holds the national record, won the silver medal at the European Athletics Championships in Zurich late Thursday.

With a 64.21 m throw in the fifth attempt, Jelaca improved her personal best, 62.68 m, by 1.53 m.

Zimonjic, Nestor reach Cincinnati doubles quarter-finals

CINCINNATI - Serbia's Nenad Zimonjic and Daniel Nestor of Canada reached the men's doubles quarter-finals at the Cincinnati ATP Masters 1000 tournament early Thursday by beating the Spanish-Colombian pair of Guillermo Garcia-Lopez and Santiago Giraldo 6-3, 6-2 in just 44 minutes.

CINCINNATI - Serbia's Jelena Jankovic and Ana Ivanovic have reached the third round of the USD 2,567,300 Cincinnati WTA Masters 1000 tournament.

In the second round, Jankovic beat Annika Beck of Germany 6-1, 7-6 (7-0) early Thursday, while Ivanovic defeated Christina McHale 6-4, 6-0.

TRIESTE - The tournament in Trieste ended in a defeat for the Serbian men's national basketball team, which lost to hosts Italy 80-71 (22-11, 15-24, 12-17, 31-19) in the last round late Tuesday.

It was the first defeat for head coach Aleksandar Djordjevic's team in the preparations for the upcoming World Championship in Spain.
