Govt aim to complete launched projects, agree on new ones

BELGRADE - The goal of the Serbian government is to accelerate the realisation of all launched projects and the work on closing agreements concerning new infrastructure projects, Serbian Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Construction, Transport and Infrastructure Zorana Mihajlovic said in the talks with Director of the Directorate-General for European Neighbourhood Policy and Enlargement Negotiations of the European Commission (EC) Jean Eric Paquet.

During the Friday talks with Paquet concerning regional cooperation in the sectors of transport and infrastructure modernisation in Serbia and the region, Mihajlovic underscored the importance of completion of the Corridor 10 motorway section by the year of 2016, which will help set up better connections between Serbia and the countries in the region.

The minister expressed the expectation that the mixed Serbian-Albanian working group would prepare a joint proposition of infrastructure projects by April 1, which would then be presented in Brussels by the two prime ministers.

Paquet underscored that the European Commission is interested in improving infrastructural ties between the countries in the region, and pointed to the major potentials for the development of the transport sector.

Closer cooperation between the region and the EU in defining the priorities of development of the transport network in the region would contribute to the realisation of this goal, as well as better exploitation of existing infrastructure, the officials stated during the meeting.
