Stefanovic: We will arrest Taci if he comes to Belgrade

BELGRADE - Serbia's Interior Minister Nebojsa Stefanovic said on Thursday that Kosovo's Foreign Minister Hasim Taci will be arrested if he comes to Belgrade.

"If he appears in Belgrade, the interior ministry will take action in line with the law and bring him to justice," Stefanovic said, replying to reporters' questions at the Palace of Serbia.

Serbia's War Crimes Prosecutor Vladimir Vukcevic said earlier to Belgrade-based daily Blic that the warrant for Taci's arrest is still in force, and he could be arrested if he comes to Belgrade.

The Serbian warrant for Taci's arrest was issued on March 9, 1999 on charges of the criminal act of terrorism and he was sentenced by a court ruling to ten years of imprisonment thereon. In 2003, the warrant was expanded to cover the charges of genocide as well.

NGO Youth Education Committee, which is organizing a conference on the Western Balkans' EU integration together with the UK ambassador in Belgrade, announced on Thursday that Taci confirmed his participation in the meeting that will be held in Belgrade from April 23 to 25.
