FM on NATO spokeswoman tweet: Disrespect for Serbian victims

BELGRADE - The Serbian Foreign Ministry (FM) has said a NATO spokesperson's retweeting a picture featuring a "NATO AIR - Just Do It" slogan on her Twitter account represents disrespect for the Serbian victims of the 1999 NATO bombing of Yugoslavia, adding that such actions are detrimental to cooperation between Serbia and NATO.

On the day marking 15 years since the beginning of the bombing, NATO spokeswoman Oana Lungesku retweeted the picture, tweeted by Kosovo's European Integration Minister Vljora Citaku earlier, showing the trademark slogan of the famous sports shoes producer Nike where NATO was substituted for NIKE to create the message.

Miomir Udovicki, Serbia's assistant foreign minister for security policy, has met with the head the of the NATO Military Liaison Office in Belgrade to talk about the move by the NATO spokeswoman which represents taking the same position regarding the Remembrance Day for the victims of the NATO bombing as held by the interim institutions in Pristina.

Serbia's diplomatic representatives in Brussels also met with NATO representatives to discuss the issue.

"It was pointed out that such actions constitute disrespect for the Serbian victims of the NATO bombing and that they are do not contribute to cooperation between Serbia and NATO, underway through the NATO Partnership for Peace program," the Serbian ministry's release said.
