Belgrade Poetry Festival begins on May 14

BELGRADE - The 8th Belgrade Festival of Poetry and Literature entitled 'Trgni se! Poezija!' (Snap! Poetry!) will be held in the Belgrade City Library (BGB) from may 14 to 17 and it will gather over 20 poets, translators and artists from ten countries, the officials announced at the press conference.

The festival is organised by the NGO Treci Trg (Third Square) and BGB under the auspices of the Belgrade City Secretariat for Culture and the slogan of the eighth festival is the title of the collection of poems by Serbia's famous 20th century poet Branislav Brana Petrovic, 'Odbrana Sveta' (Defence of the world).

Ahead of the 8th Belgrade Poetry Festival, an exhibition honouring Brana Petrovic opened in the BGB lending department on Thursday.

”Since the second festival, we have been paying homage to famous Serbian poets, and this year we opted for Brana Petrovic as one of the most prominent Serbian poets, translators and journalists in the 20th century,” Festival Director Dejan Matic said.

From May 14 to 17, the festival will feature appearances by poets Rolf Aggestam (Sweden), Dusko Novakovic (Serbia), Olvido Garcia Valdes (Spain), Amir Or (Israel), Zlata Kocic (Serbia), Petr Hruska (the Czech Republic), Tomasz Rozycki (Poland), Tatjana Danilianc (Russia), Lenka Danjhelova (the Czech Republic), Katerina Rudcenkova (the Czech Republic), Marko Pogacar (Croatia) and others.

Special attention at this year's festival will be drawn to poets coming from the Czech Republic.

”The guests of the festival will also include translators without whom understanding poetry is impossible,” Tadic said.
