FM: Open one chapter as soon as possible

BELGRADE -- Opening one of the 35 chapters of EU accession talks as soon as possible is of great importance to supporting the reform process in Serbia, Ivica Dačić says.

Serbia's deputy prime minister and foreign minister Ivica Dačić made the statement during the talks he had late on Thursday with Commissioner for European Neighborhood Policy and Enlargement Negotiations Johannes Hahn.

Dačić informed Hahn about the priorities and plans for Serbia's chairmanship of the OSCE in 2015, pointing out that it was an opportunity for Serbia to show its political credibility to its partners, said the Serbian Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

"We see obtaining full-fledged membership of the EU as a joint endeavor characterized by partnership between the states of the Western Balkans and the EU," Dačić said, adding that Serbia appreciated seeing its partners from the EU being involved in discussions about the problems facing the region.

Han expressed full readiness to accelerate the process of Serbia's European integration and said he would personally do whatever he could to help it, the statement said.

He pointed out that he had chosen Belgrade as your first destination in the region since taking the office of EU commissioner in order to stress the importance the EU attached to Serbia and its European integration process.

Hahn thanked Dačić for the cordial welcome he had been shown and for Serbia showing willingness for cooperation and fostering the partnership between Serbia and the EU.
