President reiterates Kosovo is "EU's condition"

BELGRADE -- Serbian President Tomislav Nikolic has said that he "heard well" what EU Commissioner Johannes Hahn said during their recent meeting in Belgrade.

Namely, Nikolic reiterated that he heard that "recognition of Kosovo is a condition for Serbia's entry into the EU."

"If I'm lying, the recordings do not, " he told the television outlet N1 in an interview.

Nikolic said that "a sensational recognition of Kosovo cannot and should not happen."

According to him, "a solution must be found that would not exclusively refer to the Serbian Constitution, or, on the Albanian side, to the situation on the ground."

Commenting on Hashim Thaci's statement that Serbia "de facto recognized Kosovo," Nikolic this was a case of "insolence" - because Thaci "participated in the negotiations and knows that recognition was not put on the table."

"It only complicates the position of the interim institutions from Kosovo ahead of the talks in Brussels, as this will be a topic," Nikolic said.
