Vucic: Serbia is pursuing its policy

BELGRADE - Serbia is pursuing its policy, following its EU path and maintaining good cooperation and traditionally good relations with Russia, Serbian Prime Minister Aleksandar Vucic stated on Friday and added that he expects the first chapters in the EU accession talks to open by the end of June or September.

Replying to reporters' questions as to how he would qualify the recent statement by U.S. Secretary of State John Kerry that Serbia is on the line of fire in the conflict between Washington and Moscow, Vucic replied that Serbia does not have an enviable geo-strategic position but will do all it can to preserve its economic and political stability and ensure peace and safety for its citizens.

The prime minister underscored that nothing has changed in Serbia's foreign policy and underscored that this matter does not depend on certain media headlines.

Asked to comment on certain remarks concerning the possibility of a Ukraine scenario occurring in Serbia, Vucic said that he has no knowledge about this whatsoever.

I do not know anything about that, but I know that some factors from the opposition were secretly hoping for it, Vucic said and underscored that the difference between a statesman and politician is measured by the results they left behind.

In the talks with reporters during his visit to a home for the elderly in Belgrade, the prime minister underscored that his goal is to make the country economically and politically stable and ensure it is governed by peace and citizens feel safe in it.

Asked about the date when the first chapters in Serbia's EU accession talks would open, Vucic briefly replied that he hopes it would happen by the end of June or September.
