DSS:EU decision to suspend works on South Stream detrimental

BELGRADE - The Democratic Party of Serbia (DSS) has stated on Wednesday that the European Commission's decision to suspend construction works on the South Stream gas pipeline is detrimental, as it most directly jeopardizes the economic interests of Serbia and all EU member states involved in the project.

The crisis in Ukraine has an adverse effect on Serbia, putting the furtherance of its vital geopolitical and economic interests at risk, the DSS noted.

"Continuing with its policy of pressure, the European Union is boldly blackmailing Serbia into politically condemning and imposing sanctions on Russia. On the other hand, the European Commission's latest decision to suspend works on South Stream jeopardizes the economic interests of Serbia, and all EU member states across which this gas pipeline should go," reads a release of the opposition DSS that did not make it to the parliament in the elections.

The DSS is of the opinion that "the EU's policy, which is in a highly unreasonable way aimed at furthering political, economic and geo-strategic interests of the United States, is detrimental to Serbia", and this requires a change in Serbia's state policy, which means that the country should give up on the EU integration and opt for the policy of political neutrality.
