Embassy of Kuwait marks holiday

BELGRADE - Kuwaiti Ambassador to Serbia Yusuf Abdul-Samad has hosted a reception in Belgrade to mark the 54th anniversary of Kuwait's independence and the 24th anniversary of its liberation, noting that his country considers Serbia as a dependable political partner.

Fifty-two years have passed since the establishment of Kuwaiti-Serbian diplomatic relations and we consider Serbia an important and dependable political partner - the cooperation in the economic and investment spheres is increasingly apparent, and the cooperation in trade is registering increasing growth, the Kuwaiti ambassador said at the reception, held in the Hyatt Regency hotel late Wednesday.

He said that Kuwait and Serbia will further develop cooperation through the many bilateral agreements signed, and that Kuwait awaits with particular attention the upcoming meeting of the two countries' joint commission on economic and technical cooperation.

Abdul-Samad said that Kuwait provided significant assistance to Serbia during last year's catastrophic floods and that his country is always ready to help all those in distress around the world.

Accordingly, and due to the traditionally good relations and mutual trust, Kuwait has provided a significant donation for construction of new houses in Obrenovac, the Kuwaiti ambassador said.

The reception was attended by Serbian Agriculture Minister Snezana Bogosavljevic Boskovic, former Serbian president Boris Tadic, as well as diplomatic officials and many figures from Serbian cultural and public life.
