EU to open talks with Albania and Macedonia "by end of 2019"

EU Enlargement Negotiations Commissioner Johannes Hahn says Albania and Macedonia will open EU accession negotiations "by the end of 2019."

Hahn made the promise in an interview for Radio Free Europe after EU members gave a conditional green light to opening accession talks with the two states.

EU foreign ministers agreed in Luxembourg on Wednesday that the two countries should start the process of opening negotiations in June 2019 - pending progress on reforms, primarily in the judiciary, and on the fight against organized crime and corruption.

Such a decision was made because of the opposition coming from France, the Netherlands, and Denmark.
