PM A. Tsipras on a hectic schedule in US visit

Government spokeswoman Olga Gerovassili said that Greek Prime Minister Alexis Tsipras’ participation in the 70th Session of the UN General Assembly is an opportunity for a series of meetings within the framework of the government’s multi-dimensional policy. She pointed to three goals that the PM hopes to focus on during his visit: (1) debt; (2) political instability; (3)economic recovery based on growth.

The UN summit will have Tsipras’ participation on Monday. He will attend speeches of UN Secretary Genera, Bank Ki-Moon, Brazilian President Dilma Vana Rousseff and US President Barack Obama in the morning, before attending Ki-Moon’s luncheon. Tsipras is invited to a reception by Obama and the First Lady that will be attended by heads of UN delegations.

Tsipras will meet with Chinese President Xi Jinping to discuss on a number of bilateral issues, such as culture and maritime collaboration, on the sidelines of the summit. He will also hold bilateral meetings with the presidents of Egypt, Brazil, Ecuador and possibly Venezuela are also on the agenda.

On Tuesday, Tsipras will meet with Cyprus President Nicos Anastasiades and will meet with his Turkish counterpart Ahmet Davutoglu in the afternoon in a meeting attended by Ki-moon. A meeting with Albanian Prime Minister Edi Rama is scheduled for Monday or Tuesday.

Tsipras will attend the reception of European Council President Donald Tusk and also meet with representatives of the Greek-American community.

Wednesday brings talks with Prseident of the Palestinian Authority, Mahmoud Abbas, and US Secretary of State John Kerry in the presence of Foreign Minister Nikos Kotzias.

Tsipras visit to the United States will end on Thursday with a meeting of Archbishop Demetrios of America and possibly the mayor of New York, Bill de Blasio.
