Northern mayors change position on elections

KOSOVSKA MITROVICA -- Leposavić Mayor Dragan Jablanović has confirmed that Serbs from northern Kosovo would take part in parliamentary elections in Kosovo on June 8.

Speaking on Wednesday, he did not wish to explain why leaders of the four municipalities in the north changed their decision made a day earlier, when they said conditions did not exist for participation.

Head of the Serbian Government Office for Kosovo Marko Đurić met with them on Wednesday in Kosovska Mitrovica.

On Tuesday, Jablanović said that the four mayors had decided "not to call on the citizens to turn out and vote, but also not to suggest a boycott."

Speaking in Vienna earlier on Wednesday, Prime Minister Aleksandar Vučić said the government would recommend to Serbs in Kosovo to vote in the election scheduled for Sunday.
