Programme for 70th anniversary of Belgrade's liberation set

BELGRADE - The organisational committee decided on Friday on the programme for the 70th anniversary of Belgrade's liberation, which will begin on October 10 and finish on October 20, with a military parade and a formal event in honour of the city's liberators.

Memorial plaques to war heroes Koca Popovic and Peka Davidovic will be unveiled for the anniversary, the Belgrade authorities said.

Head of the organisational committee Goran Vesic said Belgrade was fully prepared to celebrate the 70th anniversary of the city's liberation with dignity.
"The celebration we have planned is not important merely to commemorate our great victory over the Nazis, but also marks Serbia's return to its anti-fascist roots, he noted, adding that Serbia had contributed a lot to the battle against Nazism.

SUBNOR, an organisation that brings together World War Two veteran associations from Serbia, has invited veteran organisations from Russia, the UK, France, Ukraine, Azerbaijan, Italy, Bulgaria, Slovenia, Croatia, Bosnia-Herzegovina, Montenegro and Macedonia to send their officials to Serbia for the anniversary.

The Belgrade Library, Post Office Museum, Museum of Yugoslav History, Belgrade Fortress, Belgrade City Museum, Institute for Protection of Cultural Monuments, Yugoslav Film Archive, Dom Omladine youth club and Sava Centar will all have something to show to visitors during the anniversary.
