Serbian President expects EU pressure over Kosovo recognition

BELGRADE - Serbian President Tomislav Nikolic on Friday refused to rule out the possibility of pressure from European institutions aimed at making Serbia recognise Kosovo-Metohija as an independent state.

"It seems that we will have an open attack on the Kosovo-Metohija province by some European institutions that will be aimed at making us realise, I guess, or somehow accept, that it is a state," Nikolic told reporters at the Serbian Academy of Sciences and Arts Gallery.

He was responding to questions about Thursday's conversation with Eulex officials in Belgrade, after which mission head Alexandra Papadopoulo refused to consent to releasing a joint statement from the meeting.

"It is unclear to me why she imposed an embargo… I think she showed what democracy in organisations looks like when they think a truth will not be liked by those who read it," he said.
