Slovenia receiving many congratulations on Statehood Day

Ljubljana – Slovenia is receiving congratulations from many world leaders on Statehood Day, with President Borut Pahor having received messages from Queen Elizabeth II, US President Joe Biden, German President Frank-Walter Steinmeier and French President Emmanuel Macron, among others.

Queen Elizabeth II wrote in her congratulatory message that she had been happy to observe for the last thirty years how the relations between the UK and Slovenia had become warmer and deeper, the president’s office said.

On behalf of American citizens, President Pahor was also congratulated on Statehood Day by US President Biden, who emphasised the need to preserve democracy in his message.

Biden said that Slovenia’s unwavering support for sovereignty and territorial integrity of Ukraine and its assistance to Ukrainians was proof of Slovenia’s strong commitment to democratic principles that had led to independence 31 years ago.

German President Steinmeier expressed joy and gratitude that relations between Slovenia and Germany had developed so well in the last 30 years. “We have become exceptionally close and trustworthy partners,” he wrote.

In his message, French President Macron noted that Slovenia and France had established exceptionally close ties due to their common commitment to the EU and its values, and also thanked Pahor for his personal commitment in the Western Balkans.

Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan said he was happy to be able to host Pahor on an official visit in Ankara in August. He expressed the belief that bilateral ties will continue to be strengthened in all areas, including Turkey’s EU accession.

Serbian President Aleksandar Vučić said he would like the multi-faceted cooperation and traditionally friendly relations between the two countries to develop further. He also thanked Pahor for Slovenia’s support for Serbia on its path to the EU.

North Macedonian President Stevo Pendarovski noted the good relations between the two countries and expressed his gratitude for the strong support for North Macedonia in the integration into the European and Euro-Atlantic community.

Pahor also received congratulatory messages from Spanish King Felipe VI, King Philippe of Belgium and Japanese Emperor Naruhito, and the heads of state of the Czech Republic, Bulgaria, Finland, Switzerland, Egypt, Georgia, Kenya and many other.
