BiH, Serbia improve military co-operation

The strengthening of military ties between the two countries is beneficial for their bilateral relations, mutual co-existence and the success of future regional co-operation.

Military co-operation between Bosnia and Herzegovina (BiH) and Serbia has been steadily rising in recent years and is beneficial to improving each country's armed forces, regional safety and stability and each nation's EU integration efforts.

"A general assessment is that the bilateral defence co-operation of the two countries is very intense and productive and contributes to development of overall good neighbourly relations," Uma Sinanovic, head of public relations at the BiH Defence Ministry, told SETimes.

She added that the best results have been achieved in the field of education and training.

"In 2014, 23 Serbian armed force members participated in 14 activities in BiH organised by the Sarajevo Peace Support Operations Training Centre (PSOTC)," Sinanovic said. "By the training in the PSOTC, co-operation goes through training organised by the Mobile Training Team of PSOTC in Serbia with 27 Serbian soldiers. Exchange of instructors is one of the military co-operation segments."

"Trainings organised by the Regional Centre for Chemical, Biological, Radiological and Nuclear Defence (CBRND) in Krusevac, central Serbia, were held by five BiH military members. Three of them have participated in conferences dedicated for planning military exercise 'Balkan Response,' which is planned for May," Sinanovic said.
