Overview of Foreign Minister Kotzias’ participation in Ministerial Week of the UN General Assembly

While participating in the High-Level Week of the UN General Assembly, in New York City, Foreign Minister Nikos Kotzias accompanied Prime Minister Alexis Tsipras to meetings with the Presidents of China, Xi Jinpin; Egypt, Abdel Fatah Al Sisi; the Republic of Cyprus, Nicos Anastasiades; Palestine, Mahmoud Abbas; Brazil, Dilma Rousseff; and Equador, Rafael Correa. Mr. Kotzias also accompanied the Prime Minister to meetings with the Prime Ministers of Turkey, Ahmet Davutoğlu; and Albania, Edi Rama; as well as to meetings with U.S. Secretary of State John Kerry and UN Secretary General Ban Ki-moon.

In tandem, Mr. Kotzias had a number of bilateral and trilateral meetings with his counterparts and participated in and High-Level Debates and Events, as well as in Ministerial Meetings of international organizations.

More specifically, Mr. Kotzias carried out meetings with his counterparts from Georgia, Giorgi Kvirkashvili; Azerbaijan, Elmar Mammadyarov; Iraq, Dr. Ibrahim Al- Jaafari; San Marino, Pasquale Valentini; Kosovo, Hashim Thaci; Iran, Mohammad J. Zarif; Norway, Vidar Helgesen; the Russian Federation, Sergey Lavrov; Lebanon, Gebran Bassil; Argentina, Hector Marcos Timerman; Turkey, Feridun Sinirlioğlu; Jordan, Nasser Judeh; and Libya, Mohammed al-Dairi.

Foreign Minister Kotzias also participated in the meeting of Foreign Ministers of EU member states, in a working breakfast of Foreign Ministers of the Organization of the Black Sea Economic Cooperation (BSEC), in a working luncheon with his colleagues from the South-East European Cooperation Process (SEECP), and in a working dinner of the Foreign Ministers of the countries of the EU and NATO.

Mr. Kotzias also met with the UN Secretary General’s Special Adviser on Cyprus, Espen Barth Eide, and with the Prime Minister of Kosovo, Isa Mustafa. He took part in a trilateral meeting with the Foreign Ministers of Cyprus and Egypt, and he attended the ceremony for the raising of the Palestinian flag at the UN building.

Finally, Foreign Minister Kotzias participated in a number of High-Level Debates and Events on international and regional issues, and met with representatives of American Jewish organizations.
